Champion the Next Generation of SJSU Aviators

We are the San José State University Precision Flight Team (PFT), a student-led organization dedicated to developing the next generation of aviation professionals. Our mission is rooted in providing hands-on learning experiences, skill-building competitions, and networking events. Through these opportunities, we equip students with the knowledge, connections, and experience they need to succeed in the industry.

Our team is made up of over 40 students from diverse backgrounds, representing not only Aviation but also Business, Engineering, and a wide range of academic paths. What unites us is a shared passion for aviation and a commitment to mastering the skills, professionalism, and safety culture that defines great aviators.

OUR GOAL

We believe that true learning is only possible beyond the classroom. The PFT serves as a year round extension of classroom learning. This environment allows students to build confidence, develop leadership, and learn from peers who bring different experiences and perspectives.

While there are many things that make us unique, our members have various opportunities to be around and operate actual aircraft. Many students are already fully certified pilots and our curriculum continuously pushes them towards operational excellence. This year is full of exciting news; the Precision Flight Team in conjunction with SJSU Department of Aviation has secured a pilot pathway opportunity for aviation students. Our philosophies match many of the same qualities Alaska Airlines looks for in candidates. This year, all accepted students were members of the Precision Flight Team. Additionally, the PFT has been invited to participate at a national skill-building competition in May, 2026. This is our opportunity to showcase the best of SJSU Aviation on a national level, and serve as a culminating experience for all.

For many of our members and alumni, the flight team becomes the defining experience of their college career. The team serves as a community that challenges them, supports them, and prepares them for the professional world.

- Training Resources: Manuals, workbooks, online learning packages and more
- Workshops: Skill building experiences, and time around real aircraft
- Competitions: Precision handling of actual aircraft, cross-country navigation, knowledge based tests, scenario based learning
- Networking events: Various opportunities to meet with industry leaders, companies, and job fairs
- Travel: Lodging and transportation to attend various networking events and skill-building competitions
