Turning your gift into a matching or challenge gift motivates other donors to give. Research suggests that matching and challenge gifts can increase donor numbers by more than 30%.

Match Gift — Give a set amount per donor or dollar, up to a certain amount.

• EXAMPLE: You commit $5 per donor, up to $500. 
  • If your match gift receives 20 donors, $5 x 20 donors = $100 donation.
  • If your match gift receives 100 donors, $5x100 donors = $500, at which point your match would end as you reached your maximum.

Challenge Gift (Basic) — Make a donation once a goal is achieved.

• EXAMPLE: You commit $500 IF your challenge gift receives 50 donors.

Challenge Gift (Winner takes all) — Creates a competition between two projects or project groups (i.e., College of Engineering vs. College of Science). At the end of the challenge, the winning project or group will receive the prize, which can be either a monetary OR non-monetary prize.

• EXAMPLE: You commit a $500 challenge between the College of Engineering and the College of Science to see who attracts the most donors.
  • If the College of Science wins, it will receive the $500 gift.
