Baja Spartan Racing is a student-run engineering team at San Jose State University dedicated to designing, building, and racing a durable, 4x4 off-road vehicle for SAE International’s Baja collegiate design series. But beyond the chassis, suspension, electronics, and powertrain, Baja is about the students who choose to challenge themselves, learn by doing, and grow through hands-on engineering.
This season has been defined by growth. Many of our members walked into the shop having never worked on a large multi-disciplinary project before. Others stepped into leadership roles, learning how to guide teammates, manage timelines, and solve problems under pressure. There were long nights, redesigns, failures, and moments when everything worked according to plan. Every setback strengthened our process. Every improvement was earned.
Now, as we prepare to compete at the 2026 Baja SAE Oregon Competition, we are focused on finishing this season strong, not just by showing up, but by showing how far we’ve come.
Through 1857 Minutes of Giving, we are raising funds to directly support:
Competition travel and lodging: $25,000
Registration and event fees: $1,850 USD
Competing at Baja SAE costs approximately $65,000 per season. Our sponsors have already given us $10,000 to fund our competition costs. As a fully student-led organization, we rely on sponsors, alumni, faculty, families, and community supporters to make this opportunity possible. Every dollar raised makes a direct difference.
Supporting Baja Spartan Racing means investing in students gaining real-world experience in engineering, project management, teamwork, and leadership. It means giving students the opportunity to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it in a high-pressure, hands-on environment.
With your support, we can cross the finish line strong and can continue to grow as a team, as individuals, and as future engineers. Together, we can help Baja Spartan Racing represent San Jose State University with pride from the shop floor to the national stage.
