Who are we?

We are The Valley Foundation School of Nursing Fall 2027 Cohort. Although we are only in our second semester, nursing school has already challenged and shaped us to be more confident nurses. Through clinical experiences, skills labs, and long hours of studying together, we are beginning to understand the responsibility and dedication this profession requires.

Our school’s mission is to prepare “responsible and knowledgeable clinicians, leaders, and scholars to meet changing global healthcare needs,” which always reflects in how we are taught and trained throughout the entirety of our program. We are learning not only the clinical knowledge necessary to provide safe and effective care, but also the leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking skills that define strong nurses. Since our first day, we are encouraged to think beyond ourselves and consider the broader impact we will have in healthcare.

As a cohort, we are working together to navigate through the five rigorous, but memorable semesters. We come from different backgrounds and experiences, but we share a common goal: to become compassionate and competent nurses who serve our communities with integrity. Starting this fundraising effort early gives us the opportunity to thoughtfully prepare a meaningful ceremony that we hope to have.

Why are we raising the money?

We are raising funds for our future pinning ceremony, a long-standing and worldwide tradition in nursing education. The pinning ceremony marks our transition from a student nurse to a professional nurse. It allows us to reflect on the dedication, growth, and perseverance required to complete the program.

Our ceremony is entirely student-run and student-funded. From selecting a venue to organizing the program and coordinating the details that make the event special, our cohort will take charge. This process demonstrates many of the values central to nursing: collaboration, organization, accountability, and working together toward a shared goal.

When the time comes, we hope to host a ceremony that allows us to invite family members and friends who have supported us along the way. These are the people who encourage us during challenging semesters and are there for us through our ups and downs. Our goal is to create an intimate and welcoming space that honors both our accomplishments and the people who have always stood behind us.

How can you help?

Hosting a pinning ceremony takes planning and resources, including securing a venue, arranging audiovisual support, printing programs, and creating an environment that reflects the significance of the occasion. By raising funds now, we can distribute these expenses over time and reduce the pressure as graduation approaches.

Every donation, regardless of size, helps us move closer to creating a ceremony that honors the dedication and growth of our cohort.
