SJSU Votes, housed in the Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (IPACE), is a nonpartisan campus and community voter registration, voter mobilization, and civic education and engagement initiative. SJSU Votes organizes multiple get out the vote (GOTV) activities such as voter workshops, the SJSU Votes Festival, candidate and ballot proposition forums, and on and off-campus voter canvassing for SJSU and the surrounding community. SJSU Votes also recently led the effort to have SJSU recognized as a “Most Engaged Campus” for student voting by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.
The Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement is raising money for two SJSU Votes’ Fellowships for summer and fall 2026 ($3,000 each; $6,000 total). These fellowships would provide meaningful learning and leadership opportunities for undergraduate students. Beginning in summer 2026, SJSU Votes Fellows would be extensively trained in nonpartisan GOTV and other civic engagement efforts. In the fall semester, SJSU Votes Fellows would help mobilize voters in the SJSU community to participate in the November 2026 Midterm Election to ensure their voices are heard. The SJSU Votes Fellows would also help to organize additional civic engagement efforts on campus and in the community.
This fellowship opportunity provides paid training and employment for two undergraduate students to work on critically important civic engagement efforts, including nonpartisan voter registration, mobilization, and education efforts during the November 2026 Midterm Election. Paid fellowships allow SJSU Votes to recruit dedicated students regardless of their financial background. Fellowships will directly contribute to students’ professional educational growth.
