The Black Leadership and Opportunity Center at San José State University advances student success from pre-matriculation through graduation. We provide opportunities for leadership development, community building and support through a culturally relevant lens. We center the strengths, resilience, and lived experiences of Black/African students while welcoming all Spartans to learn, grow, and lead together. The Center is a space where students strengthen their confidence, develop leadership skills, and find their home away from home through community, which helps them persist to graduation.
The Black Leadership and Opportunity Center is raising funds to sustain programs that strengthen belonging, leadership, and academic success. Through these initiatives, students receive the mentorship, training, and culturally affirming support they need to persist, graduate, and thrive at San José State University and beyond. That impact culminates each year in our proudest traditions – the Black Joy Year-End Celebration. This powerful ceremony honors students’ academic achievements and personal journeys, and through your generosity, we provide cultural stoles that recognize their resilience and accomplishments.
Because of you, students won’t simply graduate, they will cross the stage feeling seen, celebrated, and empowered for what comes next. Access to resources, mentorship, and leadership opportunities can be the difference between simply attending college and truly succeeding in it. This is why your donation matters. Every dollar invested expands opportunities for students to stay enrolled, graduate, and emerge as leaders who give back to their families and communities. When you give to the Black Leadership and Opportunity Center, you are investing in student success that strengthens the entire Spartan community.
