The Center for Asian Pacific Islander Student Empowerment (CAPISE) at San Jose State University is dedicated to supporting the academic, cultural, and personal growth of students through the lens of Asian and Pacific Islander histories, cultures, and experiences. Through empowerment, advocacy, and community-building, CAPISE helps students thrive at SJSU and beyond.

Why Your Support Matters
Before CAPISE was established, the APIDA Task Force organized the annual APIDA End of Year Celebration to honor graduating students. Since 2023, CAPISE has proudly continued this tradition with the newly named Making Waves, a special event dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of our graduating class. (Spring 2026 will mark the celebration’s 7th anniversary!) This ceremony not only recognizes their achievements but also highlights the resilience and unique challenges they face in higher education. A central element of the event is the Making Waves stole— a powerful symbol of pride, perseverance, and cultural connection.
How You Can Help & Empower Our Students!
Your generous donation through SJSU’s Day of Giving will help provide the Making Waves stoles, which cost an estimated $20 each. With over 150 students expected to participate, we aim to raise $3500 to ensure every graduate receives this meaningful keepsake. By giving today, you’re not only supporting students' accomplishments but also preserving a community tradition that empowers our students as they move into the next stage of their lives. Help us reach our $3500 goal and celebrate student success at SJSU!
