SJSU Cares is the central hub for students facing unforeseen financial crises and basic needs insecurities. Whether it’s food instability, housing displacement, or a sudden financial emergency, SJSU Cares provides compassionate, one-on-one support, and provides resources to support students’ academic success and well-being.
During 1857 Minutes of Giving, every dollar raised goes directly into our Student Crisis Support Fund. These are more than just grants, they are lifelines. From temporary housing for a student sleeping in their car, to an unexpected utility bill that would otherwise force a student to drop out. Last school year, SJSU Cares provided 796 nights of emergency beds and provided over $165,000 in crisis grants. These grants remove barriers that threaten a student's ability to focus on their education.
The reality is that for many Spartans, they are just one flat tire or one medical bill away from having to leave the university, and unfortunately, the need is growing. We have seen a significant rise in students seeking assistance as the cost of living in the Bay Area continues to climb. Your gift helps students enrolled and ultimately graduate from the University.
