Every SJSU AIAA project starts with a group of students who want to see their design leave the ground. Through Design/Build/Fly, rocketry, propulsion, senior projects and other student-led work, our members design, manufacture and test real aerospace systems together.
In Design/Build/Fly, students create and test a competition aircraft. They put CAD modeling, aerodynamics, controls and rapid prototyping to work, then learn what holds up once the plane is in the air. Other teams take on rockets, propulsion systems and spacecraft concepts. This is where classroom engineering becomes a skill students can use.
Good ideas still need materials. When money runs short, teams cut the scope of a design, reuse old components, build fewer prototypes or leave parts of a project untested. Each of those means fewer chances to learn by testing a design and improving it.
About 70% of what we raise goes straight into project materials and components. The rest helps with lab equipment, travel and other project costs.
Our goal is $2,000, and our stretch goal is $3,000, which means more prototypes built and more designs tested. Your support helps Spartan engineers prepare for careers in aerospace. Give by December 1!
