Sponsor SJSU Students Training in Community Health

At the SJSU Healthy Development Community Clinic (HDCC), students learn community health by leading it. Last year, our Student Trainees delivered 109 wellness programs and reached more than 2,700 community members at schools and community sites across San José.

HDCC was founded in 2019 by SJSU faculty to help close gaps in health and development for families in Santa Clara County. Our free prevention and early intervention programs cover topics such as nutrition, mental health, physical well-being and family-strengthening skills.

Every program is student-led. Our trainees come from fields such as Child and Adolescent Development, Psychology, Speech-Language Pathology, Counselor Education and Nutrition, and they learn to work as interprofessional teams. Many are first-generation college students gaining the skills and confidence to serve the communities they call home.

We have grown from one site to eight partner sites across San José, and the cost of supervision and program materials has grown with us. Your gift sponsors a semester of hands-on training in Spring 2027, covering clinical supervision and the supplies trainees use to lead programs. Our trainees go on to become speech-language pathologists, therapists, teachers and community leaders.

Our goal is $2,500 to sponsor five Student Trainees, and our stretch goal is $3,500, which would help us sponsor more. Give by December 1!
