Help SJSU's MSA Host Iftars and Build Community

Last Ramadan, SJSU's Muslim Student Association (MSA) served more than a thousand iftar meals to students on campus. We hosted six community iftars and two resident iftars, and we worked with campus partners so halal restaurants stayed open later and students living on campus could get packaged suhoor meals.

MSA is the hub of Muslim life at SJSU. Two years ago, we advocated with the university for a campus musallah: two carpeted prayer rooms, one for brothers and one for sisters, each with a wudu station and a small library of Islamic books. Today we gather there for daily prayer and Jummah, and for taraweeh during Ramadan. In the 2025–2026 school year, we hosted over a hundred events and served over 500 students.

This year we want to grow. In Ramadan, we plan to host eight community iftars and, if funds allow, eight more resident iftars for students who live on campus. About half of what we raise supports Ramadan programming. The rest keeps our year-round programs going, from speaker events to service projects, and helps us launch new professional development workshops.

Our goal is $10,000, and our stretch goal is $22,500, which would help us add resident iftars for students living on campus. Your gift helps Muslim students feel welcomed and supported as they balance their faith with college life. Give by December 1!
