Help SJSU's NSDC Host Its First Hackathon

Last year, National Student Data Corps (NSDC) at SJSU hosted a Data Science Symposium with student project presentations and a guest speaker, and the room was nearly full. Seeing how eager students were to learn and share their work, we wanted to give the SJSU community another hands-on opportunity.

We are launching our first hackathon on February 13, featuring three specialized tracks: impact, security, and intelligence. Students will work in teams to develop creative solutions to technical challenges in artificial intelligence, data science and related fields. The event is open to students with different levels of experience, including those attending a hackathon for the first time. Participants will practice programming and data analysis while learning how to work as a team.

We are a chapter of the National Student Data Corps, a national data science organization with chapters at colleges and universities. Planning the symposium gave our team real experience running a large event, and we're ready to do it again.

Our main challenge is covering the basic costs that make the event welcoming and accessible. Your gift pays for food and supplies for participants, along with outreach so more students hear about it. Our goal is $1,500. Reaching it means students can focus on building their ideas and connecting with peers. Give by December 1!
